Parent-Child Bonding Class
To educate children with love is not only about showering them with love and teaching them skills and knowledge. More importantly, it is to inspire kindness in their hearts and guide them to work for the common good.
Education is a lifetime mission. Apart from giving students time and a conducive environment in which to learn, the presence of good role models, positive examples, and personal support is indispensable. Parents and teachers, in particular, play a vital role in children’s development. While addressing Tzu Chi staff and volunteers, Master Cheng Yen often highlights that parents and teachers are the role models for children, and thus it is important for them to set fine examples, in order to raise good children.

In modern parenting, parents are often torn between work and family responsibilities, and have little time to interact with their children. Many parents recount frustrations of dealing with incidents of rebellious or disobedient children. In the light of these disturbing social trends, Tzu Chi Singapore revamped its monthly Children’s Class into the “Parent-Child Bonding Class” in 2009. By inviting the parents to join in the Class, they can learn ways to improve parent-child interactions, thereby strengthening their bonds with their children as they learn and grow together with them.
A stable parent-child relationship is crucial to children’s psychosocial development. It will help the children to develop self-confidence and build good interpersonal relationships with others. Children often mirror their parents’ behaviour. Hence, parents can see their own imperfections in their children, and seek ways for self-improvement.

The Tzu Chi Parent-Child Bonding Class is open to P1 - 6 children. It has a meaningful and enriching programme that includes the teaching of Jing Si Aphorisms, communications skills between parents and children, filial piety, environmental vegetarianism, as well as outdoor activities. Teacher volunteers share inspiring news and stories from the world of Tzu Chi in class, allowing the parents and children to learn precious lessons on human love and care. Many of the parents have also been inspired to join the ranks of volunteers. We hope that through the collaborative efforts of the teachers and parents, the kids can learn and grow in a positive, wholesome environment.
